JACQVILS
Passion Project
JACQVILS is my own music project. I write and release the tracks, and I make the artwork for every one of them. Salsette Vice and Kay feature on some of the releases.
No brief, no client and nobody to approve anything. Which is the point.
A release is a world, not a template. Brands need a system that holds across everything; a body of songs needs the opposite, because two tracks that sound nothing alike should not look like siblings. So the only fixed element is the wordmark. Everything under it is free to move.
That gives each cover one job: find the single image that the song already sounds like, then get out of its way. Crushed purple velvet for Lush. A convertible lifted into cloud for Fly. Rain falling through sunlit trees for Sunshower. A dog hung upside down, cropped hard against flat tan, for Delphic, because the track is unsettling and a beautiful picture would have lied about it.
The script wordmark is the only thing that repeats, and it changes colour and scale to suit whatever it is sitting on rather than being locked to one treatment. It behaves like a signature rather than a logo: recognisable, but written differently each time.
Singles and collaborations, 2020 onward.
